Job Title: Gas Turbine FEA Analyst
Our Reference: J30045
Employment Term: Hourly Rate
Location: East Midlands
Salary: Negotiable
Job Category: Aerospace
Our client a leading supplier to the Aerospace Industry are looking to appoint a Whole Engineer Modeler/FEA Analyst on a contract basis based in Derby.

The Whole Engine Thermo-mechanical Design Team are responsible for predicting the structural and vibration response of the installed gas turbine engine during normal operation such as flight manoeuvres, pass-off testing and during in-service events such as bird strike, fan blade off and windmill taking account of engine loading and thermal effects. This is achieved by analysing complex three dimensional finite element models of the engine that comprise representations of the engine, nacelle, pylon, wing and occasionally the whole aircraft using a combination of Nastran, Dyna, Hypermesh, SC03 and SC03 plug-ins.

The work undertaken can require external interfacing with airframers and Airline customers in addition to all the Supply Chain Units. A Whole Engine Thermo-mechanical Design Engineer may be required to provide engineering support to any of the processes carried out within the Team including : • Model creation, integration and checking • Assessment of engine response to the application of static flight and thrust loads including gross engine deflections, tip clearances and internal loads • Assessment of vibration characteristics of an installed engine, particularly natural modes • Assessment of rotor dynamic characteristics of the engine particularly critical speeds and response to engine unbalance • Assessment of the transient response of the engine following a core or fan blade release and the subsequent fly-home (windmill) event • Support to engine or component rig test • Engine model or substructure validation against component or engine test • Assessment of root cause of in-service failures and to provide recommendations for resolution • Support to the development of a new engine type • Development of new technology or processes to support the technical activities of the group • Publication of appropriate certification reports • Application of Thermal information.

The successful candidate will have an Engineering/science/mathematics degree and a demonstrable technical ability in some or all of the following : • Finite element modelling of engine structures, ideally utilising Nastran or Dyna • Static mechanical analysis of large structures (loads, displacements etc.) • Vibration and rotor dynamic assessment of engine components • Transient dynamic analysis • Heat transfer You will also have good analytical and problem solving skills together with the ability for creative and innovative thinking, possess good communication skills and an ability to work within a team environment. You will be self-motivated with the ability to plan and prioritise their own work. An understanding of the Design and Development processes would be an advantage.
